Astoria is the county seat of Clatsop County, Oregon. Located near the mouth of the Columbia River, the city was named for John Jacob Astor the American investor and first millionaire. John Jacob Astor had a fur trading company founded at Fort Astoria in 1810. Astoria was incorporated in 1876.
Situated on the southern shore of the Columbia River, Astoria is served by the Port of Astoria with its deep water that allows import and export by major vessels. Transportation in and out of Astoria includes the Astoria Regional Airport with Route 30 and Route 101 as the main highways. There is also transport via the Astoria-Megler Bridge connection to Washington across the Columbia. In 2007 the state estimated the population at 10,045 residents.
