Bend was founded in 1904 by a universal vote by the community’s 300 residents. It was incorporated on January 4, 1905. Twelve years afterward, Deschutes County was formed from the western half of Crook County, and Bend was elected the County Seat.
Mount Bachelor, previously named Bachelor Butte, is a volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc in the Cascade Mountain Range. The Mount Bachelor ski area has operated at the mountain since 1958.
