Visiting Florida

The state of Florida is recognized as the Sunshine State and is the very most south-eastern state in the United States.   This state has gained its popularity from the snowbirds who will flock to this area in the winter months to escape the colder climates in the northern states.  Well know for the oranges harvest it is still the main export in Florida and this area is still very agricultural focused. Tallahassee is the capital of Florida and is located on the eastern side of the well known Florida panhandle.

Florida Attractions and Beaches

You can't really mention Florida attractions without thinking about the fabulous beaches that surround most of this wonderful state.  The beaches are in fact the most popular attraction to Florida visitors.  However, this is debatable depending on your age.  Florida is also home to some of the countries most well known and traveled amusement parks.  This would obviously include the world famous Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida.  Not to mention some of the other theme parks like Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and SeaWorld. There is no doubt the the beaches and theme parks bring thousands upon thousands of visitors to this state every year but if you think that is all Florida has to offer, you are in for quite a treat.

Additional attractions include:

• Visit the Everglades National Park - This area is well known for the swamps that hold many secrets and surprises.  This is certainly not like any other place in the country and must be experienced to appreciate.  The Everglades National Park offers airboat rides through the swamps and you will be shocked at just how big this area is.

• Florida offers over 150 state parks.  Big deal right.  Well it is a big deal in Florida as this state is a two-time winner of the National Recreation and Park Association's Gold Medal award for state park systems.

• For those interested in the foundation of this great country, pay a visit the Seminole Indian reservations throughout the state.  At the same time take in some gambling available on some of the reservation land.

• Florida diving is some of the best in the country.  Go on diving excursions off of the beautiful Florida coastlines which offer many coral reefs, sunken vessels, and a wide variety of exotic sea life.

• Fabulous hiking and backpacking getaways. Throughout many of the Florida state and national parks you will find spectacular trails perfect for day and overnight hiking trips.

• Florida National Scenic Trail system offers 1400 miles of hiking trails. It should be noted that  the most popular section of hiking and back backing trails are the 110 mile route at Lake Okeechobee.

• World class Florida Fishing.  Well documented for some of the best fishing in the world, Florida offers fishing trips that include both salt and freshwater fishing.

• Florida is also home to many ports which are the starting line and finishing line for wonderful cruises.

• While hanging out in the sun try your hand at parasailing which is always a hit with the visitors to the Florida beaches.

Florida Climate

The state of Florida is well known for its balmy weather conditions. Summers are typically long and very warm, with the inland areas hovering a little higher then the coastal regions. One very nice thing about the coastal areas are the breezes that seem to cool off those scorching hot days and turning them into the perfect play days.

While these welcome coastal breezes take the sting off the blistering hot temperatures, they are also to blame for many of the frightening storms that gain national attention annually.  However, many of these are often very brief, they are very common and visitors should pay close attention to the weather patterns before planning a vacation to this area.  In fact the rainy season is known as June through September so if those dates are marked on the calendar, plan for a few indoor days on your vacation as a backup plan.   Having said all of that, don't be scared off by Florida weather because it is the weather that is also Florida's biggest attraction, after all, this is the Sunshine State.
